Peebles Earns Regional Honor at Designated Hitter
RALEIGH – NC State freshman Cannon Peebles has earned ABCA Atlantic All-Region Second Team honors, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Peebles earned the ABCA Second Team honor as a designated hitter. The All-Region teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
Peebles, a freshman from Ashland, Virginia, turned in a stellar first season for the Wolfpack after leading NC State with a .352 batting average, .697 slugging percentage and a .456 on-base percentage. Peebles appeared in 46 contests for the Pack as a freshman, starting 30 games as the designated hitter and nine behind the plate at catcher.
Peebles tied for first on the roster with 50 RBI and ranked second on the team with 12 home runs. He led all NC State hitters with a .348 batting average and a .742 slugging percentage in ACC play, tying for first with seven homers.
The Ashland, Virginia native also earned 2023 ACC All-Freshman Team honors in May. Peebles recorded 13 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI performances during his freshman season, stretching 24 of his 50 hits on the season for extra bases.
Peebles posted one of the best single-game stat lines in NC State history in a 21-2 win over NJIT on March 4, going 6-for-6 with three doubles, two home runs, two runs scored and 10 RBI. He became the first NC State hitter with six hits in a single game since Brian Wright on March 11, 2001. His 10 RBI were the most by a Wolfpack hitter since at least 1999 and he was the first Wolfpack player to hit a homer from both sides of the plate since Patrick Bailey on Feb. 28, 2020.
Peebles' incredible performance against NJIT helped him earn Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week honors and Golden Spikes National Performance of the Week accolades.
The freshman finished his first season in Raleigh ranked third in NC State freshman history with 50 RBI and tied for third with 12 homers. Peebles concluded the season on a nine-game reached base streak and a five-game hitting streak.
