Whitaker Named ACC Pitcher of the Week, Peebles Named ACC Co-Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State baseball's Logan Whitaker and Cannon Peebles swept the final ACC Player of the Week honors for the 2023 season, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.
Whitaker was tabbed the ACC Pitcher of the Week, while Peebles was named ACC Co-Player of the Week after dominant performances in the Wolfpack's series sweep at home against Pittsburgh. Clemson infielder Billy Amick joined Peebles as the league's ACC Co-Player of the Week.
Whitaker, a redshirt junior from Winston-Salem, shined in the Pack's Thursday night win, pitching seven shutout innings while allowing just one hit with six strikeouts. Whitaker tossed a season-high 113 pitches in the stellar performance, facing the minimum three times and allowing only a bloop single with one out in the fifth inning.
Peebles capped off an incredible first regular season in Raleigh with one of his best weekends in a Wolfpack uniform, going 6-for-8 with two homers, eight RBI, two doubles, six runs scored and five walks. Peebles was only put out twice the entire weekend, reaching base safely 11 times in 13 plate appearances.
The Ashland, Virginia native opened the weekend 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI. The freshman then smacked a three-run homer for the second straight game in the Pack's 17-8 win over Pitt, clinching a spot in the ACC Tournament and a series victory on Friday. Peebles reached base all five times in Friday's win, going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, three walks and three runs scored. He finished the weekend with two walks and a run scored as the Pack completed the sweep of Pitt on Senior Day.
