
Pack Splits Afternoon, Inks Record Book

Game one of the afternoon recorded the third most runs scored in a single game (19) in program history.
NC State 19, NC Central 9 (6 inn.)
The Eagles jumped out to an early leader after Ivory Jones hit a three-run home run. The Wolfpack quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning.
To begin the bottom of the first, graduate Rebecca Murray led the Pack off with a double to center field and she advanced to third on the throw. The next two Pack batters got out and MaKayla Marbury was hit by a pitch before stealing second. With two on base, Nadia Sykes stepped up to the plate and was walked by the Eagles. Freshman Amanda Hasler stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and singled down the left-field line. Her hit brought two home to get the Pack on the board and minimize the Eagles' lead. Senior Libby Whittaker was sixth in the Wolfpack's lineup and reached on an error by the Eagles second baseman before she advanced to second on the throw. The play brought two more home for the Pack and gave them the lead, 4-3.
Hailey Batista led off the Eagles with a homer to left field to start the third and tie the game, 4-4. NC State ended their scoring attempts despite the Eagles recording three hits in the inning.
The first two batters in the Wolfpack's lineup were walked and advanced to the next base on a wild pitch. Graduate Katlyn Pavlick reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases for Sykes. With a 2-2 count, the freshman drilled a ball over the centerfield wall to record a grand slam. The hit was her first homer of her collegiate career and put the Pack up 9-4.
NC State had a pitching change to start the third as Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle. The redshirt junior walked the first batter faced before striking out two. The top half of the inning was retired after the Eagles suffered a flyout to Murray in center field. Murray then recorded a solo homer with two outs in the bottom half of the inning to give the Pack a 10-4 lead.
The Wolfpack added an additional four runs between the third and fourth innings. To begin the fifth inning, junior Brooklyn Lucero entered the circle for the first time this season.
In the top of the fourth, the Eagles recorded a grand slam to increase their score to eight. NC State responded in the bottom half of the inning when Whittaker recorded her second RBI single of the afternoon.
The Eagles recorded another hit in the top of the sixth, but the Wolfpack added enough to end the game in the sixth.
Freshman Bailey Edwards recorded her first collegiate homer, bringing in an additional runner with her. Junior Haley Haislip also recorded a homer, the first of the season for her and brought in three to end the game.
At the conclusion of game one, Sykes and Whittaker led the team with four RBI's; Murray, Ensley, and Whittaker each recorded two hits to lead the team in the category. On the defensive side, Whittaker led with six putouts and Hasler added an additional five.
NC State 3, NC Central 10
NC Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start off game two. A home run by Takia Nichols brought in two after a single by Makiya Graves brought in one. The Eagles scored three more runs in the top of the third after Nichols and Graves recorded the hits that brought the runs in once again. At the end of the third inning, the two combined for six RBI.
With one out and one on base, Sykes singled up the right side, allowing Ellie Goins to score and get the Pack on the board.
Freshman Wynne Gore started in the circle and recorded two strikeouts in four innings. Weixlmann entered the circle in the fifth for the Wolfpack and finished the evening with six strikeouts, a new season high. Her mark is the second highest amount of strikeouts this season by an NC State pitcher.
The Eagles finished the second game with three home runs and ten total runs. NC State finished the three runs on six hits.

The Wolfpack will host Notre Dame for the second ACC series of the season. Play will begin Friday at 6pm on ACCNX.
