NC State starts off weekend with win over Notre Dame

RALEIGH The NC State men's tennis team has three home matches this weekend. The Wolfpack got the trifecta off to a good start, defeating Notre Dame, 4-0, Friday night.
With the win, NC State improves to 11-5 overall and 5-0 in the ACC.
It's the first time the team has started 5-0 in league play in the Kyle Spencer era. The team remains perfect at home in ACC play and has outscored their opponents 12-2 at JW Isenhour Tennis Center. NC State has outscored their ACC opponents 20-4 so far this season.
"Any win in the ACC is a good win," Spencer said. "I thought the guys competed really hard. I think getting that one out of the way and getting ready for a tough Louisville team on Sunday, followed by A&T, that was good to get that one for sure."
Doubles (NC State 1, Notre Dame 0)
NC State has two ranked teams in the doubles field, but it was the No. 3 team that got the Pack off to a good start.
Fons Van Sambeek and Braden Shick wasted little time against Evan Lee and Yu Zang, holding them scoreless in a 6-0 win. Van Sambeek and Shick have won seven of their last eight matches as a duo. They are 4-1 in ACC play. No. 40 Rafa Izquierdo Luque and Joe Wayand secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Matthew Halpin and Jean-Marc Malkowski,
Singles (NC State 3, Notre Dame 0)
The singles battles were just that, battles early on all across the six courts. The Irish took two of the first six sets to show they weren't backing down after doubles.
Braden Shick, though, led the NC State charge, winning his first set, 6-3 and finishing his match first, knocking off Aditya Vashistha in two sets. Staeheli, who came in at No. 73 in the ITA polls this week, found himself in a close one with Connor Fu in the first set, but escaped with the tiebreaker. Staeheli didn't need a tiebreaker in the second set, cruising to a 6-1 victory to take both sets.
With a 3-0 lead, all eyes were on court four, a battle between Catry and Jean-Marc Malkowski. Catry jumped out in the first set, winning 6-3, before falling in set No. 2, flipping the score. In the third and final match, with the pressure on, Carry secured the match with a 6-2 win to set off a celebration for another ACC victory.
