
NC State to host 2023 ACC Wrestling Championships

Wolfpack looking for fifth straight title
RALEIGH The 2023 ACC Wrestling Championships return to Raleigh on Sunday, March 5.Â

The brackets were released on Tuesday, with six NC State wrestlers receiving a first-round bye.
Â
Wolfpack 184-pounder Trent Hidlay and 125-pounder Jarrett Trombley highlight the group, receiving the top seeds in their respective classes.
Â
Ryan Jack (141), Jackson Arrington (149), Alex Faison (174) and Owen Trephan (285) were all No. 2 seeds and also received a first-round bye.

No NC State wrestler was lower than a No. 3 seed.

In the 133 class, No. 3 Kai Orine will take on No. 6 Logan Agin from Duke. Orine defeated Agin by Technical Fall when they met on January 27. In the 157 class, No. 3 Ed Scott faces No. 6 Logan Ferrero from Duke. Scott pinned Ferrero in their previous meeting.

In the 165 class, freshman Matty Singleton meets Duke's Gabe Dinette. In the 197 class, Isaac Trumble will have a rematch with UNC's Max Shaw. Trumble defeated Shaw, 3-1, on February 17.Â

Matches will begin at 11 am on two mats inside Reynolds Coliseum. There will be additional sessions at 1 pm (semifinals), 3:30 pm (consolation semifinals)Â and 5 pm (consolation finals) with the championship rounds beginning at 7 pm. The ACC will receive 34 automatic bids to the NCAA championships this season, which will be held March 16-18 in Tulsa, Ok.Â

The ACC was awarded 2023 qualifications in the following weight classes: 125 (2), 133 (3), 141 (4), 149 (4), 157 (3), 165 (3), 174 (3), 184 (5), 197 (4) and 285 (3).

Last season, NC State won its fourth straight ACC Championship, behind four individual championships.Â
