DURHAM, N.C. – Playing its final road game of the 2022-23 regular season, NC State women's basketball (18-10, 8-9 ACC) fell to 11th-ranked Duke (24-4, 14-3 ACC) by a 77-62 score on Thursday night.
It was a three-point game at the half, but Duke outscored NC State 44-32 in the second half to remain unbeaten at home this season. The Pack brought a 17-point Blue Devil lead to nine in the fourth quarter but was unable to bring it closer down the stretch.
Jada Boyd (19), Jakia Brown-Turner (12) and Saniya Rivers (11) all scored in double figures for the Pack. Boyd shot an efficient 5-of-6 from the floor and also went 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Aziaha James dished out a game lead-tying five assists in her second-straight start.
The first half alone featured six ties and six lead changes. NC State led 15-14 after the first quarter but then went scoreless the first 3:45 of the second quarter as Duke jumped ahead 21-15. The Blue Devils' 7-0 run to give it that advantage marked the largest lead by either team in the first half. The Wolfpack climbed back into it, fueled by seven second-quarter points scored by Brown-Turner. Duke ended up scoring the final three points of the opening half to lead 33-30 after 20 minutes.
The Blue Devils went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter that spanned three minutes. They led by as many as 14 (52-38, 1:39) before NC State scored six of the last eight of the period to make it a 10-point game (54-44) headed into the final frame. Duke scored the first seven of the fourth quarter to open up an advantage of 17 that it would hit on two other occasions in the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach for the Wolfpack.
Duke took advantage of 17 second-chance points, out-rebounding NC State 43-24 overall and 16-4 off the offensive glass.
For the first time since the 2018-19 campaign, NC State will close out its regular-season slate with a home game on Sunday, Feb. 26. The Pack welcomes Pitt to Reynolds Coliseum to round out its conference schedule with that game set for a 2 p.m. start on ACCNX. The game is sold out, but fans who are interested in purchasing tickets may do so on StubHub, the official fan-to-fan marketplace of the Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack will honor three members of its senior class - Jada Boyd, Jakia Brown-Turner, Camille Hobby - with a pregame ceremony that will begin at 1:40 p.m.
