Season-High Beam Total of 49.400 Leads Pack Past George Washington, Penn, and Temple
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The NC State gymnastics team posted a season-high road score on Sunday evening with a 196.475 in a quad meet at Temple with George Washington and Penn.
The Wolfpack were awarded meet champion honors, with George Washington finishing in second place at 196.075 followed by Temple at 195.450 and Penn at 195.125. The Pack's night was highlighted by a season-high score of 49.400 on beam, which ranks as the fifth-highest score in the event in program history.
NC State saw Emily Shepard and Alexis Ortega tie for the individual all-around crown at 39.375, with Ortega additionally tying for first place on bars with a career-high 9.900.
Bars (48.975)
The Pack began the contest on bars where Ortega's 9.900 was aided by a 9.800 from Shepard. Lauren Rutherford anchored the event with a 9.775, while a pair of 9.750 marks from freshmen Kailee Adomaites and Sofia Obregon rounded out NC State's scoring effort.
Beam (49.400)
NC State's best rotation of the night came on beam, where Ortega's second score of 9.900 resulted in a second-place team finish while Chloe Negrete fired a 9.925. Negrete finished the event in third place, with her and Ortega each registering new season highs and matched their previous career highs. The Pack only counted scores of 9.850+ on the beam, as Krista Zultevicz finished with a 9.875 and Shepard matched Gabrielle Diaz at 9.850.
Floor (49.150)
Another strong rotation from the Wolfpack was led by a pair of 9.875 marks from Shepard and Negrete. Shepard and Negrete, both seniors, have been pillars of NC State's lineup on the floor throughout their careers and the 2023 campaign, as Shepard has posted scores of 9.875+ on floor in six of the Wolfpack's eight meets, while Negrete has done so in seven competitions this season. Rutherford posted a 9.825 in the event, while a 9.800 from Diaz and a 9.775 for Ortega completed the counting scores for NC State.
Vault (48.950)
The Wolfpack's night ended on vault, with Negrete anchoring at 9.875 which was NC State's highest score in the event. Negrete's routine succeeded Shepard's score of 9.850, while a pair of 9.800 marks from Rutherford and Ortega complimented Diaz's leadoff score of 9.625.

NC State will now shift its focus to an EAGL tri-meet against Long Island University and Temple. The Pack's upcoming contest is set for Sunday, Feb. 26 at LIU and is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
