NC State Registers Season-High Scores on Bars and Floor
RALEIGH – The NC State gymnastics team moved back into the win column on Friday evening as the Wolfpack knocked off EAGL opponent New Hampshire 196.150-195.650 in its penultimate dual meet of the regular season.
The night was highlighted by the Pack hitting its season-high score on bars at 49.200 and ended the contest with a season-high 49.400 on floor that tied the sixth-highest mark in program history.
NC State additionally swept the first-place honors in all four events, with Emily Shepard taking champion honors in vault, bars, and floor, while Chloe Negrete shared the beam crown in a tie for first.
New Hampshire's Alyssa Beaulieu was awarded all-around champion with a score of 39.150, finishing just ahead of Alexis Ortega's 39.125.
Vault (48.900)
NC State began its evening on vault where Shepard led the way for the Wolfpack with a score of 9.850. Negrete additionally posted a mark of 9.825 while the Pack's scoring effort was rounded out by a 9.725 from Krista Zultevicz and a pair of 9.750 scores from Gabrielle Diaz and Lauren Rutherford.
Bars (49.200)
NC State set a new season-high mark on bars during its second rotation with a 49.200. The previous season high came during the Wolfpack's Jan. 21 tri-meet against George Washington and Pitt, with Friday's score highlighted by Shepard matching her career high in the event at 9.900. Shepard's score additionally served as NC State's first score of 9.900+ on bars in its 2023 campaign. The event both started and ended strong for the Wolfpack, with freshman Kailee Adomaites leading off with a 9.800, and Lauren Rutherford anchoring with a 9.850. Like Shepard, Ortega also matched her career-best score with a 9.875, while a 9.775 from Peyton Childs was the Pack's final counting score.
Beam (48.650)
Negrete continued her streak of leading the way for the Pack on beam, as the senior has either posted NC State's highest score in the event in every meet this season either as the solo leader or trying for first amongst members of the Wolfpack. Ortega and Zultevicz each tallied 9.800+ marks as the duo registered a 9.825 and 9.800, respectively. Beam specialist Macy Jennings posted a 9.600, while Diaz led the Pack's third roation off with a 9.575.
Floor (49.400)
NC State's highest event total of the year came in its final rotation as the Pack posted a 49.400 on floor. All six of the Wolfpack's gymnasts competing in the event fired scores of 9.800+, with Diaz leading off at 9.850 and Negrete anchoring with a 9.900, her fifth score of 9.900+ over the course of the 2023 season. Shepard was the Wolfpack's leader as she matched career-best mark of 9.925, while Zultevicz did the same at 9.875. The scoring effort was completed by a 9.850 from Rutherford while NC State's non-counted score was a 9.800 from Ortega.
