Pack Looking to Bounce Back During ACC/Big 10 Challenge

RALEIGH -- The NC State softball team is set to host the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at Dail Softball Stadium Feb. 17-19 for the 2023 home opener.
The Pack will host Purdue on Friday at 6pm, before facing the Boilermakers for a final time at 3pm. Iowa will face the Wolfpack at 3pm Saturday before a final meeting Sunday at 12:30pm.
Admission to all games will be free and parking is available in the Reynolds Parking Deck. A virtual permit is needed for patrons attending Friday's games.Â

- NC State is looking to bounce back after a tough opening weekend
- The Wolfpack will host Purdue, Iowa, and Syracuse for the ACC/Big 10 Challenge
- Freshman utility player MaKayla Marbury recorded the Pack's first homerun of the 2023 season against Arizona on Feb. 12
- The Pack had six freshman start in the final game of the Candrea Classic, including pitcher Rylee Wyman who started in the circle for three of the Pack's five games over the weekend
- Center fielder Rebecca Murray leads the Pack with five hits thus far, including a double and triple
- Murray also leads the team in putouts with 14
- The Pack is 11-9 in season openers and 13-6 in home openers
- Over the past five seasons, the Pack has hit a homer in three of the last five season openers
- NC State has won three of the last five home openers, including one against a ranked opponent
- The 2023 season marks the 20th year of competition for the Wolfpack
- The Pack's meeting with the Boilermakers will be the first in almost 11 years -- the last time the two met was March 2, 2012 in Kissimmee, Fla when Purdue won 7-5 in nine innings
- The Pack returned 10 from the 2022 campaign and brought in an addition 11 during the offseason
- JSP brought in eight freshman, which was tabbed the fourth ranked signing class as tabbed by Extra Elite 100
- Also joining the Pack are transfers Katlyn Pavlick (Pitt), Rebecca Murray (Elon), and Hannah Goodwin (Clemson)
- In 2022, the Wolfpack finished with a 33-23 record
- The Pack was tabbed to finish 10th in the ACC in the preseason poll
- Despite what most people think, the Homerun Mindset is not just about hitting home runs -- it's about giving 110% in everything you do in life and being the best version of yourself that you can be
- NC State bats were on a tear last season as the Pack has tallied 82 homers and finished 16th in the country in home runs per game hitting 1.47 a contest
- The 82 home runs were the second-most in program history in a single season and the most under the tenure of head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift
- The 2022 season marking the second year in program history that the team has hit 80 or more home runs -- the program record for home runs in a season is 88 set by the 2013 squad
- On Saturday, March 27, 2022 against UNC, NC State hit a program best nine home runs (the previous school record was eight set against Boston College on April 27, 2013)
- Freshman MaKayla Marbury recorded the teams first homer of the 2023 season against No. 12 Arizona (2/12/23)
- The Boilermakers opened the season in Tallahassee and went 2-1
- Purdue finished 11th in the Big Ten in 2022 after going 24-31 overall, 7-15 in conference
- The Boilermakers are tied 1-1 in series history with the Wolfpack, with Iowa winning the most recent meeting in 2012
- The Hawkeyes completed opening weekend with a 4-1 record at the FAU Paradise Classic
- Iowa run ruled one opponent while going into extra innings with another
- Iowa finished 14th in the Big Ten in 2022 after going 21-31 overall, 3-20 in conference
- The Pack is tied 1-1 in series history with the Hawkeyes, winning the last meeting back in 2015
