NC State hoping to bounce back on day two of ACC/Big 10 Challenge
RALEIGH – The Wolfpack dropped its home opener to Iowa, 11-2, Friday evening at Dail Stadium for the teams first game of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
After two delays due to weather, the first pitch of the meeting was thrown at 8:05pm.
Iowa got on the board first in the top of the first. Denali Loecker stepped up to the plate as the fourth batter in the Hawkeye's lineup. She drilled a ball past the center field wall to record a three run homer and give Iowa a 3-0 advantage.
The Pack responded in the bottom of the first when freshman Madison Inscoe reached first on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on the throw. Fellow freshman MaKayla Marburry advanced to third and senior Rebecca Murray scored to get NC State on the board.
The second and third innings went scoreless for both teams, but the top of the fourth brought in eight runs for the Hawkeyes to take an 11-1 advantage over the Pack.
In the bottom of the fourth with one out and two on base, Murray recorded a sacrifice fly. Katlyn Pavlick advanced to third and Taylor Ensley crossed home, but the Pack's efforts to minimize the Hawkeye's lead fell short.
Freshman Rylee Wyman recorded four strikeouts, the most in a game for her so far this season, in her three innings in the circle.
