
Wolfpack Opens Action on the First Day of the Tiger Paw and Valentine Invitationals

RALEIGH - The NC State track and field program concluded the first day of action at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., and the Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., earning a new school record and multiple personal bests.Â
SPRINTS
Cameron Murray began the day by tying his own school record in the men's 60m hurdle with a time of 7.67 in the prelims, claiming second place and advancing to the next round. His day was only getting started, as the Atlanta, Ga., native broke his own record with a time of 7.64 and finished third in the 60m hurdle semis to move onto the final. He went on to take home second place and established another new school record time of 7.61 (7.618).Â
On the women's side of the 60m hurdle prelims, Ally Henson recorded a time of 8.52 to advance. She would go on to produce a time of 8.41 (8.410) in the semi finals.Â
In the men's 60m prelims, Alex Lang generated a mark of 6.65 (6.650) to earn tenth and qualify for the next round. He then went on to earn third in the semis with a time of 6.64. Saving his best for last, Lang tied his personal best time of 6.61 to earn fourth overall place in the 60m final.Â
Teammate Henry Young also competed in the prelims of the event, establishing a new personal best with a time of 6.82.Â
The Wolfpack continued a successful outing with Alexander Nunley (51.08) earning a new personal best time in the men's 400m.
THROWS
In the men's weight throw, a throw of 16.83m (55'02.75") earned freshman Nathan Lau a new personal best mark.Â
Makala Wright turned in an impressive performance in the women's weight throw, finishing first overall with an 18.76m throw, good enough for sixth-best in NC State history.Â
MIDDLE DISTANCE
Sarah LaTour earned a podium finish in the women's mile, taking third with her time of 4:51.38.
Wesley Larson (4:12.01) claimed tenth and set a new personal best on the men's side of the mile, shaving over eight seconds off of his old time. Freshman Patrick Gibbons also participated in the event, earning a new personal best mark of 4:13.23.Â
JUMPS
The Wolfpack saw another athlete claim a personal best in the women's long jump, with Jirah Sidberry finishing eighth with a jump of 6.23m (20'05.25"), which now lands her at third-best in school history. Timara Chapman tied her personal best for the event with a leap of 5.91m (19'04.75").Â
NC State also saw success on the men's side of the long jump, with Jamar Davis placing third with his new personal best mark of 7.68m (25'02.50").Â
DISTANCEÂ
Gionna Quarzo competed in the women's 5000m at the Valentine Invitational, recording a new personal best of 15:51.12. She now holds the eighth-best time in school history.
