RALEIGH, N.C. - Veteran women's cross country runner Katelyn Tuohy and Head Women's Cross Country Coach Laurie Henes have been named the 2023 ACC Women's Runner of the Year and 2023 ACC Women's Coach of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday.
The honor comes Tuohy's way after the Stony Point, N.Y. turned in another impressive campaign for the Pack that culminated in a third-straight National Championship for the women's program.
Tuohy led NC State by finishing fifth at Nationals to achieve All-American status and guide NC State to a 123-point victory, narrowly defeating Northern Arizona by one point. This came one week after the senior turned in a course-record time of 19:29.8 in the 6k at the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional in Spartanburg to capture the individual Regional Championship and the Wolfpack's seventh-straight Regional Title.
Before taking things to a National stage, Tuohy first dominated the conference by placing first in the 6k at the ACC Championships in October with a time of 19:22.8 that helped her capture the individual ACC Women's Cross Country Championship for the second season in a row. Behind Tuohy's efforts, the NC State women's cross country team won its eighth consecutive conference championship.
Laurie Henes entered the season looking to add to the trophy case and the Head Coach made good on her goals. In addition to leading the Wolfpack to its seventh-straight Regional Championship and eighth-straight ACC Title, Henes was able to lead the women of the Red and White to the first cross country National Championship three-peat since Stanford did it in 2005-2007.
The former NC State runner continues to lead her team to new heights and she has consistently been recognized for her efforts. This postseason, Henes has already been named the USTFCCCA National Women's Coach of the Year for the third season in a row and the NCAA Southeast Regional Women's Coach of the Year for the eighth-straight season.
