Wolfpack Women Win NC State Invite, Men Take Second in Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. – The Wolfpack men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped off a successful weekend of competition at the Greensboro Aquatic Center Saturday night. The No 3. NC State women finished in first place with 1964 total points, while the No. 2 Pack men ended the meet in second place with 1806 points.
It is the second consecutive season that both the women have taken first place and the men in second.
The Wolfpack women finished ahead of Arizona State (1816 points), Duke (1407 points), Virginia Tech (1014 points), and Army (657 points). On the men's side, the Pack fell to Arizona State's 2058.50 points. Virginia Tech finished third (1289.50), with Army (965) and Duke (732) rounding out the field. NC State combined to take home nine first-place finishes, nine second-place finishes, and 13 third-place finishes. The Wolfpack had a total of 50 personal bests set with 69 season best by NC State swimmers.
Katharine Berkoff had a strong showing over the weekend. Berkoff had three individual first-place finishes with times that all qualified her for the NCAA A cut. Her time of 21.52 in the 50 Y free was a personal best to go along with her time in the 100 Y free of 47.18, which was the fastest time in the nation in that event. Berkoff was a part of the women's 800 Y freestyle relay team that took second place, the 400 Y freestyle relay team that took first and saw NCAA A cut qualification, along with a 200 Y freestyle relay team placing first and earning A cut qualification.
Highlights:
In the Women 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Berkoff (21.63), Abby Arens (22.01), Casaundra Moses (22.20), and Miriam Sheehan (21.66) led off the evening setting a new meet record of 1:27.50. The time was 2.2 seconds faster the the rest of the field.
The Mens 200 Yard Freestyle Relay saw NC State come in second place behind ASU but infront of Virginia Tech as Drew Salls, Quintin McCarty, Luke Miller, and Noah Henderson combined for a time of 1:1600.
Emma Hastings (4:42.39) and Yara Hierath (4:44.58) came In the Women's 500-yard freestyle final came in 4th and 5th for NC State. In the B final the Wolfpack went 1-2 with Keelan Cotter (4:45.75) and Brooke Travis (4:47.67).
The mens 500-yard freestyle saw NC State take five of the top eight spots with Owen Lloyd (4:16.44) in third, Lance Norris (4:17.13) in fourth, Sam Flack (4:18.43) in fifth, and Ross Dant (4:19.79) in sixth.
In the Women's 50-yard freestyle Berkoff took down the meet record of 22.70 set in 2021 by setting a personal best by .02 to win the the women's 50 free with a time of 21.52. She erased . Berkoff is clsoing in on the NC State record of 21.50, set by Kylee Alons in 2021.The Wolfpack went on to sweep the podium in the event as teammates Abby Arens (22.18) and Miriam Sheehan (22.26) finished in second and third.
Redshirt freshman Quintin McCarty with a A-cut qualification and a time of 18.80 led the Pack to a win the 50-free final breaking another meet record. McCarty was .05 short of Ryan Held's pool record of 18.75 from 2018. In the B final Jerry Fox (19.64) finishing first ahead of ASU and Army-West Point
In the final event of the evening NC State's Kennedy Noble (50.79), Abby Arens (58.01), Miriam Sheehan (52.61), and Katharine Berkoff (46.86) combined for 3:28.27 to take home first place in the women's 400-yard medley. That time was 3.6 seconds off their 2nd-place time from the 2023 NCAAs.
NC State's JT Ewing (46.32), Sam Hoover (52.44), Luke Miller (44.28), and Quintin McCarty (41.78) placed third with a time of 3:04.82 in the men's 400-yard freestyle.
Abby Arens defended her top seed with ease in the women's 100 fly as the NC State senior produced a season-best time of 51.59 to lead the field. Arens (23.95/27.64) out-split the field on both 50s to best her previous SB of 51.91 set in the Wolfpack's dual against Arizona State on Oct. 20.
