Bryant Paces Pack in Sweep over UVA

RALEIGH – The NC State volleyball team (16-5, 6-4) swept Virginia (8-12, 1-9) in straight sets Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum and improved to 10-1 when playing on its home court.
The Pack jumped out to an early lead in set one, forcing Virginia to take an early timeout. With NC State leading 15-6, three members of the Pack were hitting 100 percent and had combined for 11 kills. The Wolfpack took set one after going on a 6-0 run to top the Cavaliers 25-11.
The Wolfpack continued to dominate in set two as Virginia struggled on attacks, recording 12 errors throughout the set. Sophomore Courtney Bryant led the team with five kills and two service aces in the second frame.
The two teams managed to tie the third set on 15 different occasions and recorded six lead changes. The Cavaliers found a weak spot in the defensive efforts of the Pack, going on a 7-2 scoring run. The Wolfpack ended up on top, 27-25, after a back-and-forth battle at the end of the set.
Bryant led the way with 12 kills in addition to her two service aces. Fifth year setter Kristen McDaniel recorded 17 assists, while junior setter Naomi Cabello tallied 16. McDaniel also added two service aces to the books. Middle blockers Riley Shaak and Jada Allen each tallied four blocks for the Pack, including a solo block each.
The Wolfpack will head up Tobacco Road to take on Duke at 6:30pm on ACCNX on Friday Oct. 27.
