RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's tennis will make the quick trip down the road to Chapel Hill, N.C., over the weekend to play in the ITA Carolina Regional hosted by the University of North Carolina. The Wolfpack begins tournament action on Thursday, Oct. 19, and the event runs through Monday, Oct. 23.
The regional serves as a chance for 2023-24 Wolfpack squad members to earn automatic berths to the upcoming 2023 ITA National Fall Championships event. That fall season finale is set for Nov. 1-5 in San Diego, Calif. The regional doubles champions and regional singles finalists will earn that automatic qualification.
NC State will be represented by nearly its full squad as Sophie Abrams, Gabriella Broadfoot, Gina Dittmann, Amelia Rajecki, Abigail Rencheli, Maddy Zampardo, and Anna Zyryanova all make the trip to compete this weekend.
The Wolfpack will be looking to build off strong performances this fall in the ITA All-American Tournament and the Fall Ranked Spotlight. At the ITA All-American, NC State saw 11 ranked wins, and Abrams and Zyryanova reached the semifinals of the doubles draw. Rajecki took home the singles title, and the Fall ranked Spotlight.
In 2019, Anna Rodger and Alana Smith were crowned the 2019 ITA Carolina Regional doubles champions as they won five consecutive matches to mark the program's first title at the tournament.
