RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer hosts Syracuse on Thursday night to open its final homestand of the regular season. Kickoff for Thursday's match at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State earned its third road draw in ACC play this season with Saturday's scoreless draw at Miami. The Wolfpack outshot the Hurricanes 11-5 in Coral Gables with Emika Kawagishi pacing NC State with three shot attempts. Olivia Pratapas recorded her second collegiate shutout, stopping two Hurricanes' attempts on the night. Mary Frances Symmes also logged her first-career shot on goal in the closing minutes of Saturday's draw.
SERIES HISTORY
NC State and Syracuse will face off for the eighth time on Thursday night. A few notes tracking the Pack's ACC contest in Raleigh are listed below:
• NC State leads the all-time series against Syracuse 4-2-1, holding a five-match unbeaten streak against the Orange. The Wolfpack has won four of those five matches in the streak, dropping points only once in this past season's 1-1 draw at Syracuse on Oct. 27, 2022.
• NC State has outscored Syracuse 16-6 over the past five matchups in the series. The Wolfpack has scored three or more goals in all four of its victories during that stretch.
• Lulu Guttenberger, Emika Kawagishi and Jameese Joseph all scored in a 3-0 home victory over Syracuse on Oct. 24, 2021. Maria Echezarreta made six saves to preserve the shutout in the Pack's ACC regular season home finale.
NEW RECORD (AGAIN) AT THE DAIL
One in, one out. That was the attendance situation on Sept. 30 for NC State's record-breaking crowd against Tobacco Road rival and top-ranked North Carolina. Before halftime, Dail Soccer Stadium hit fire marshal capacity at 3,972 fans. Fans outside the stadium were only allowed in if fans inside the facility exited for a one-to-one swap.
The record crowd of 3,972 shatters the previous record set on Sept. 7 against Michigan State (2,506). On that night, the first 200 students received Barbie-themed T-shirts for "Barbie Night" at Dail Soccer Stadium. That new record shattered the previous total (2,023 against UNC on Oct. 1, 2010) by over 450 people.
Overall, NC State ranks 18th nationally in cumulative attendance with 10,192 fans attending games at The Dail this season. The mark ranks third among all ACC programs, while the Pack's average attendance of 1,456 ranks 13th nationally and fourth among all ACC teams.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse (2-11-2) opened its season 2-2 with victories over in-state opponents Siena and Binghamton, scoring six goals over its first four games. The Orange holds a 0-6-1 ACC record but logged its first ACC point of the season with a 2-2 draw at home against Wake Forest on Oct. 5. Redshirt sophomore Erin Flurey leads the Orange with five goals, 13 points and 17 shots on goal this season. Goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch has played all 1,350 minutes in goal for Syracuse this season and leads the ACC with 108 saves.
