
#11 NC State Comes Up Short at #22 UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 11 NC State women's basketball (13-5, 3-4) wrapped up a tough two-game road stretch with a 56-47 loss at North Carolina (13-5, 3-3) on Sunday afternoon.
Jakia Brown-Turner led the way for the Wolfpack with 14 points, and Camille Hobby finished just short of that mark at 13. Mimi Collins posted a team-high mark of seven rebounds, while Diamond Johnson tied a game high by passing out four assists.
A low-scoring affair saw NC State limit the Tar Heels to a 26.7 percent (8-for-30) mark in the first half, the lowest shooting percentage allowed by the Pack in a half since NC State's 65-54 win at Georgia on Dec. 5. North Carolina's 21-19 halftime lead additionally marked the fewest points surrendered by the Pack in any half of ACC action.
NC State's offense found its groove early in the third quarter as the Pack opened the second half on an 8-2 run over just 2:32 of play. Four different members of NC State's roster scored during the quick run, giving the Pack its largest lead of the game at 27-23.
A spurt from the Tar Heels pushed North Carolina ahead briefly, but the Wolfpack closed the third period on a 5-1 run that ended with a River Baldwin free throw to give NC State a 32-31 edge heading into the final frame.
Despite an early fourth-quarter lead, an 8-0 run from the Tar Heels proved to be insurmountable, as the Pack threatened but was unable to move ahead at any point after North Carolina took a 35-34 lead. Overall, UNC outscored NC State 25-15 and shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) in the fourth quarter to close out the win.
NC State is back in Raleigh on Thursday night for a home contest against Miami. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be televised nationally on the ACC Network.
