
Gymnastics Sets Program Record Against Nationally-Ranked Michigan State

Pack Finishes At 196.375
RALEIGH – The NC State gymnastics team opened its 2023 home slate of meets with a score of 196.375, the highest mark for a home opener in program history.
The Pack improved on its season-opening score of 195.525 from Jan. 9 by nearly a full point in less than a week of preparation time.
NC State fell just short of nationally-ranked Michigan State who posted a 196.400.
Vault (49.125)
The Wolfpack began the meet with a strong start on vault highlighted by Emily Shepard's fifth-career score of at least 9.900 in the event. Shepard's 9.900 led the way for the Pack and tied her career high, with two scores of 9.825 by Chloe Negrete and Krista Zultevicz following closely behind. The 49.125 tally gave NC State an early edge, with all five counting scores at 9.775 or higher.
Bars (49.100)
Alexis Ortega tied her career high mark on bars at 9.875, with Shepard matching her score on the next routine. Additionally, Lauren Rutherford continued a strong start to the year by improving her season-high score on bars to 9.850. The event also saw Peyton Childs and Hailey Merchant make their lone appearances of the evening with scores of 9.800 and 9.700, respectively, while freshman Kailee Adomaites posted a 9.650.
Beam (48.900)
Negrete's strong night continued on beam as she posted a team-high score of 9.875. Shepard followed closely behind Negrete with a score of 9.775, while Gabrielle Diaz, Macy Jennings, and Zultevicz each tallied marks of 9.750.
Floor (49.250)
NC State's highest event score of the night came in the final rotation where the Pack posted two scores of at least 9.900. Shepard's 9.900 preceded a 9.925 from Negrete to close the meet, while Madison Benson made her 2023 debut at 9.850 and Rutherford posted a 9.850.

NC State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 when it hosts an EAGL tri-meet against Pittsburgh and George Washington. Saturday's contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start in Reynolds Coliseum and will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
