Wolfpack Hosts Virginia Tech on Thursday

RALEIGH – The No. 19 NC State women's soccer team (6-1-3) opens the second week of its four-game home stand Thursday against Virginia Tech. Thursday night's match is set for 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium.
NC State's match against the Hokies will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack stormed back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to capture a 2-1 comeback victory over Wake Forest in its ACC opener. NC State handed Wake Forest its first loss of the season, scoring goals in the 78th and 84th minutes to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory. Alexis Strickland tied the match off assists from Leyah Hall-Robinson and Annika Wohner. Jenna Butler then played a long ball to Jameese Joseph, who spinned off her defender and finished past the goalkeeper for her team-high third game-winning goal of the season. The win marked the Pack's first win over Wake Forest since Sept. 25, 2016.
SERIES HISTORY
The Pack and Hokies have played 16 times with Virginia Tech holding a 10-5-1 advantage in the all-time series. NC State is 1-3-1 in its past five matches against Virginia Tech, notching its most recent win in a 1-0 victory in Blacksburg on Oct. 22, 2017.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech (6-2-1) has posted multi-goal victories in five of its six matches this season, scoring three or more goals five times this season. The Hokies dropped their ACC opener on Friday against Pittsburgh 4-1, allowing three goals within an 8-minute stretch. Forwards Tori Powell and Taylor Price pace the Hokies with five goals and 12 points.
COMEBACK PACK
The Comeback Pack. NC State rallied once again on Sunday after going behind first, marking its second comeback win this season. The Wolfpack also has a flair for the dramatic, scoring in the final 15 minutes of games five times. NC State is undefeated (4-0-1) in games it nets a goal in the final 15 minutes.
SETTING THE TABLE
Since taking over the program after the 2012 season, head coach Tim Santoro has logged five or more regular-season nonconference wins six times in nine fall seasons. NC State's 3-1 win over High Point helped the 2022 team join squads from 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 to accomplish the feat.
CLIMBING IN THE POLLS
For the sixth straight week, TopDrawerSoccer ranked NC State (No. 19) in its latest Top 25. The Pack joins six other ACC schools in the top 25 – UVA (No. 2), UNC (No. 4), Duke (No. 5), FSU (No. 6), Clemson (No. 15) and Notre Dame (No. 16). NC State also jumped into the Top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the first time this season, ranking No. 22 in the nation. The Pack also ranked No. 14 in the NCAA's first RPI rankings of the season released Monday.
