Twelve to Represent Pack at NCAA Championships

RALEIGH - Twelve members of the NC State track & field program are set to compete at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, slated to take place Jun 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.

THE QUALIFIERS
Timara Chapman became NC State's first National qualifier of 2022 with her season-best heptathlon score of 5733. The personal best and school record placed her at 13th in the nation going into the Regional meet, earning her a spot at NCAAs.
At the NCAA East Preliminary, Allie Hays and Gionna Quarzo were the first to punch their tickets to Nationals with their performances in the 10000m. Quarzo ran a 34:26.27 to finish fifth at the meet while Hays registered a 34:26.36 to place sixth.
Both of NC State's Regional competitors in the men's 110m hurdles advanced to the NCAA Championships. Joshua Brockman (13.60) and Cameron Murray (13.70) each ran personal-bests to move on to the semifinals in Eugene.
Five of NC State's distance women moved on from the Regional round in the 5000m to NCAAs. Katelyn Tuohy (15:27.14), Savannah Shaw (15:33.42), Sam Bush (15:35.55), Hannah Steelman (15:36.05) and Marlee Starliper (15:37.83) all posted times good to advance them to Nationals. Tuohy's time was the fastest run at the East or West Regional.
A duo of Wolfpack women moved on to Eugene in the 1500m with Nevada Mareno's 4:13.49 and Anna Vess' 4:13.99. Mareno's mark was a personal best that ranked as the fifth-fastest in program history.
2021 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND
Graduated senior Elly Henes won the Pack's first individual national title since 2002 with her 5000m win at the 2021 NCAA Championships. She ran a 15:28.05 to become NC State's first 5000m national champion since her mother and current Wolfpack head coach Laurie Henes won the event in 1991. Henes was joined in the race by Shaw, who achieved Second Team All-America status in the event.Â
Then-sophomore Kelsey Chmiel attained First Team All-America honors in the 10000m while Steelman garnered Second Team All-America accolades in the 3000m steeplechase.
Ian Shanklin ran in the men's 5000m in 2021, placing ninth to take Second Team All-America laurels.
