RALEIGH – NC State softball suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 3 Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference series opener on Saturday.
The game was suspended on Friday in the sixth inning due to rain and continued on Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack (33-20, 7-15 ACC) tried to battle back but was unable to overcome the late deficit.
Brittany Jackson accounted for the Wolfpack's sole run as she hit her third homer of the season in the seventh inning. Randi Farricker went a perfect 1-for-1 with two walks. Maddie McPherson (13-10) suffered the tough loss in the circle despite tossing a complete game with four strikeouts and three earned runs.
NC State had multiple scoring opportunities but was unable to cash in the big hit. The Wolfpack placed a runner on third in the first, third and sixth innings but FSU's (47-5, 17-5 ACC) pitching and defense stepped up in the high-pressured moments to keep NC State off the board.
In the seventh after Jackson's solo home run, Logan Morris and Sam Sack drew two-out walks to put some more pressure on the Seminoles but a pop fly to left field ended the game.
