
Chmiel, Gaynor, Tuohy Garner CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. - NC State track & field and cross country student-athletes Kelsey Chmiel, Gavin Gaynor and Katelyn Tuohy have been named to their respective 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
Chmiel and Gaynor each attain spots on the All-District list for the second-straight year. The honor is the first for Tuohy.
Chmiel, a 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-American, completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science with a 4.0 GPA and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Veterinary Science. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native is a seven-time All-American and was the individual champion at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships and the 2021 NCAA Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships. She was named 2021 ACC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year as well as 2021 USTFCCCA Southeast Region Cross Country Women's athlete of the year. Chmiel was the first finisher across the line for NC State in its 2022 NCAA Championship win.
Chmiel holds a host of academic honors as well, including the 2022 Indoor Elite 90 Award, 2021 ACC Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, 7 All-ACC Academic citations, five USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
Gaynor completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering with a 3.76 GPA. The Canton, Ohio, native is currently completing a Ph.D in Forest Biomaterials (3.71 GPA) after attaining a Master's in Chemical Engineering. He is a five-time All-ACC honoree as well as a two-time All-Region Cross Country team member. Gaynor holds five top-10 program marks.
Gaynor is additionally a five-time All-ACC academic selection as well as a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree.Â
Tuohy holds an undergraduate GPA of 3.56 in Business Administration. The sophomore has garnered five All-America accolades throughout the course of her athletic career, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships. She has won a pair of ACC individual titles in track & field and holds the ACC record in the outdoors 5000m. The Stony Point, N.Y., has posted two times in the 2022 outdoor season that rank in the top 10 in collegiate history and was a part of the squad that won the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championship.
Tuohy has attained five All-ACC academic honors along side a trio of USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades.
All three student-athletes will be considered for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. First, second and third teams will be announced June 21 and June 22, 2022.
