NEW ORLEANS, La. - NC State track & field Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy has been named to The Bowerman Watch List, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
The Bowerman is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation. Tuohy is the first NC State athlete from either the men's or women's team to be named to the list, and she is the only ACC athlete on the May 18 edition of the women's watch list.Â
Â
Tuohy has recorded a record-breaking sophomore year, beginning with an 8:54.17 in the 3000m that broke the American U20 record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
She later won the 5000m ACC Indoor Championships title, and according to available information she became the first Wolfpack athlete, man or woman, to place higher than third in an NCAA Indoor Championships race when she placed second in both the 3000m and 5000m.Â
The Stony Point, N.Y., native has clocked two times in the outdoor season that rank in the top 10 in collegiate history. Her 5000m personal best of 15:14.61 ranks eighth all-time while her 1500m PR of 4:06.84 checks in at seventh on the all-time list.
Her 1500m mark, run at the 2022 ACC Championships, was good to win her the individual conference title by almost three seconds. Both her 1500m time and her 5000m time are the fastest in the nation in the 2022 season.
Tuohy currently holds the school record in the indoor 3000m as well as the outdoor 1500m and 5000m.
