NO BACKING DOWN:
As a team, NC State has been ranked in the national top eight for the entirety of the season and in the national top three for the entirety of March and April. Despite dropping 4-3 heartbreakers to No. 14 Duke and No. 1 UNC, the Wolfpack moved down just one spot in the national standings this week to check in at No. 3.
NC State has faced 11 opponents ranked in the national top 25 this season and is 8-3 in those contests. The Pack's matchup with the 14th-ranked Cavaliers will mark its third time this year playing a top-25 opponent on the road, as the team also picked up wins at No. 21 Tennessee and at No. 3 Texas earlier in 2022 dual match play.
MORE HONORS FOR NUGROHO:
Wolfpack rookie Priska Nugroho was honored as ACC Freshman of the Week for the third time this season after going unbeaten in singles and doubles action in last weekend's matches against No. 14 Duke and No. 1 UNC. Nugroho's slate was highlighted by a win over 10th-ranked Reilly Tran of UNC, marking the highest-ranked victory of her young career.
WIN STREAKING:
Nugroho has won her last three singles matches to own a current team-best streak. Impressively, she and Sophie Abrams have strung together eight doubles wins in a row at the No. 3 flight to lead the Pack in that category. They are a perfect 8-0 as a duo since pairing for doubles for the first time against Miami on March 6.
ON THE HUNT FOR 20:
The Wolfpack is a match away from securing its 20th victory of the season. It would mark the third 20+ win season under the leadership of head coach Simon Earnshaw, as the team went 20-6 last season and 24-7 in 2019 dual matches. Both of those previous numbers stand as the top two single-season win totals in program history.
COMING UP:
NC State will play its final two matches of the regular season at home next weekend. The Wolfpack welcomes Louisville to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Friday, April 15 and will host Notre Dame the next day for Senior Day.
