NC State Remains Undefeated on Wednesdays
RALEIGH – NC State earned two wins in the doubleheader against Norfolk State, winning game one 4-1 before earning a 7-1 win in game two of non-conference softball action inside of Dail Softball Stadium on Wednesday.
The Wolfpack improved to 33-19 on the season, marking the most wins in a season in the Jennifer Patrick-Swift era.
GAME ONE RECAP
NC State only needed the fourth inning to score enough runs to earn the first win of the day.
Maddie McPherson had a career day in the circle as she earned the win to improve to 13-9 on the season. McPherson tossed a complete game with only giving up one hit, one walk while striking out a career-high 14 batters.
Sam Sack led the way at the plate going 1-for-2 with two RBI and a home run. Logan Morris followed behind with a 1-for-2 performance and a run scored.
Sack broke the deadbolt tie with a two-run home run, her ninth of the season, in the fourth inning. Taylor Johnson drove home a run with a sacrifice fly to center field before Michele Tarpey scored the final run for the Pack in the fourth off a wild pitch.
The Spartans (30-19) scored its sole run off a solo home run in the fifth inning.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Pack's bats were active in the second game as the team went off for 10 hits including five extra-base hits to earn the sweep on the day.
Gracie Roberts recorded her first multi-hit game of her career, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Carson Shaner added a 2-for-4 outing with a double, a home run and two runs scored.
Aisha Weixlmann (13-7) tossed a complete game striking out seven batters while only giving up four hits, one run and a walk.
NC State scored the first run of the game in the first inning off a wild pitch. In the second inning, Taylor Johnson and Carson Shaner hit back-to-back home runs to put the Pack up 3-0. Later in the frame, Randi Farricker drew a walk with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 4-0.
NC State gained a 5-0 advantage in the third as Shaner scored on a ground ball to second. NSU added a run with a solo homer in the fourth. The Wolfpack responded with another run off a fielding error to lead 6-1.
The Pack's final run came off an RBI single from reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week Brittany Jackson in the fifth inning.
