CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – NC State took a late lead but Boston College responded with a big sixth inning as well to hand the Wolfpack a 9-6 loss in the Atlantic Coast Conference series finale on Sunday at Harrington Athletics Village.
The Wolfpack (31-19, 7-14 ACC) looked to be in great position to complete the series sweep but the Eagles (20-23, 6-15 ACC) scored six runs in the sixth inning to avoid being swept.
Brittany Jackson went a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and two walks alongside one RBI while Michele Tarpey recorded a hit and an RBI. Maddie McPherson was dealt the loss to move to 12-9 on the season after giving up six runs (five earned) with four strikeouts.
Boston College jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after three innings. The Pack tied the game in the fourth inning as Logan Morris scored NC State's first run off a passed ball before Tarpey hit a two-RBI single to left center field.
In the sixth, the Wolfpack gained its first lead of the game off a fielding error by BC's third baseman. Later in the frame, Jackson and Morris hit RBI singles to increase NC State's lead to 6-3. In the bottom half of the inning, the Eagles hit two three-run homers to regain the lead and hold off NC State for the win.
