#20 Pack's Sights Set on ACC Championships

RALEIGH - The No. 20 NC State men's tennis team (17-8, 6-6 ACC) is set to open postseason competition Thursday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m. against Virginia Tech in the ACC Men's Tennis Championships.
The Wolfpack is the No. 6 seed in the tournament while Virginia Tech is the No. 11 seed.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS
NC State held steady at No. 20 in the April 20 edition of the ITA rankings.
Rafa Izquierdo Luque is the top-ranked singles competitor for NC State at No. 91. Robin Catry is also ranked in singles, checking in at No. 113.
Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek are ranked together in doubles at No. 43, and Catry holds a doubles ranking of No. 51 alongside Luca Staeheli.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech enters the ACC Championships with a 7-16 (2-9 ACC) record. The Hokies' two conference wins came against Miami and Boston College. When NC State and Virginia Tech met in the regular season, the Wolfpack came away with a 4-1 victory.
Ryan Fishback is the Hokies' only ranked singles player at No. 81 and is additionally ranked in doubles with Jordan Chrysostom at No. 20.
LAST TIME OUT
The Pack played a close match against then-No. 18 North Carolina on Sunday, claiming the doubles point alongside a pair of singles wins. Ultimately, the match came down to a third set on the final singles court, and the Tar Heels were able to come away with the team win.
Then-No. 58 Rocens and Van Sambeek got a win over No. 8 Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger at the match, and the win was good to earn them ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Collin Shick and Braden Shick also tabbed a doubles win in the match, and in singles Staeheli and Damien Salvestre each posted wins.
UP NEXT
With a win against the Hokies, NC State will advance to the quarterfinals where it will face three-seed North Carolina at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 22.
