Wolfpack Falls in Slugfest

The Pack (20-11, 2-8 ACC) registered its sixth game this season of hitting three home runs but the Tar Heels' (17-13, 3-4 ACC) offense outlasted NC State to take game one of the series.
Randi Farricker led the charge at the plate as she finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double and a home run. Libby Whittaker followed behind with a 2-for-4 outing including a run scored and an RBI.
Kaylee Lambrecht also recorded a multi-hit night as she tallied two base hits, her 10th two-hit game this season, to go along with two RBI. Aisha Weixlmann (8-5) took the loss in the game after tossing 5.0 innings with four runs.
Leading 3-0 going into the third, Michele Tarpey extended NC State's lead to 5-0 off a two-run homer to left center field. UNC responded with a four-run third inning to trail 5-4. Farricker gave the Pack some cushion as she hit a two-run home run in the fourth.
North Carolina's bats caught fire in the fourth as the Tar Heels scored seven runs to take an 11-7 lead. In the fifth, Whittaker brought home a run with an RBI single before Alaina Smith hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 11.
Smith's home run was the first of her collegiate career. UNC scored the go-ahead run in the fifth off an RBI single to center field to earn the victory.
