RALEIGH – NC State was unable to find an offensive rhythm and dropped an 8-1 decision to Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference softball series finale on Sunday afternoon inside of Dail Softball Stadium.
The Wolfpack (19-10, 2-7 ACC) was able to get a few runners on base via walks and hit-by-pitches but could not get the big hit to send runners across the plate.
Randi Farricker led the way at the plate as she hit her fourth homer of the year. Sam Gress was dealt the loss to move to 7-2 on the season.
NC State threatened to put up a run in the third inning as Brittany Jackson drew a leadoff walk then advanced to second on a wild pitch but the Cavaliers' (18-11, 5-1 ACC) pitcher was able to get three consecutive outs to end the inning.
Farricker hit her solo home run in the fourth inning to reduce Virginia's lead to 7-1. The Wolfpack's final threat came in the sixth inning as Kaylee Lambrecht reached base via a leadoff walk and was able to advance to third at the second out. Virginia was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout.
