RALEIGH – The sixth-ranked NC State women's tennis team (5-0) hits the road for the first time in 2022 dual match play for a Friday meeting with No. 21 Tennessee. First serve is set for 12 p.m. from the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State has won its first five matches of the season for the third time in the Simon Earnshaw era, most recently defeating Penn State and Wake Forest by 4-0 scores last weekend. Those matches were part of ITA Kickoff Weekend, and NC State's wins secured a spot for the team at next week's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis. The Wolfpack did not drop a set in any of its completed matches during the tournament.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jaeda Daniel was named ACC Player of the Week on Tuesday. She went 2-0 in both singels and doubles action last weekend. Playing at the No. 1 singles spot, Daniel took both of her matches in straight sets, highlighted by a ranked victory over No. 35 Carolyn Campana of Wake Forest. She and doubles partner Nell Miller also earned a ranked win in doubles, defeating No. 15 Samanatha Martinelli and Casie Wooten 6-1.
PACK IN THE RANKINGS:
The Wolfpack moved up two spots in the ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll to check in at a season-best No. 6. NC State maintained its streak in the national top 15, as it has been featured in that group in every rankings release since Feb. 26, 2019.
COMING UP:
After this road match, NC State turns around for a pair of home contests against South Carolina (2 p.m.) and ECU (6 p.m.) on Sunday. All home matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center are free to attend, and parking on campus is also free of charge on Sunday. Fans are required to wear masks for the indoor competitions per NC State's University Community Standards.
