Wolfpack Sets Bars School Record at Pink Meet

RALEIGH - The NC State gymnastics team posted a 196.600, its second-highest score of the season, at its annual Pink Meet on Friday against Temple. The Owls recorded a 196.675.
The Wolfpack opened the meet on bars with a 48.900. Gabrielle Diaz led the squad with a career-best 9.875, good for a second-place finish on the event. Madison Benson and Lauren Rutherford tied as the second-highest scorers on the team with a 9.775.
On bars, NC State earned its highest team score in program history with a 49.450. Carina Jordan led the way, placing first with a career-best 9.950 and tying second-highest score in program history. Rutherford also crossed the 9.9 threshold with her career high of 9.925. The score was good to earn her second place.
Hailey Merchant tabbed a career high of 9.875 on bars and was joined in the score by Emily Shepard. Alexis Ortega rounded out the group of contributing scores with a 9.825.
Beam saw the Pack put up a 49.250, its highest score of the season on the apparatus. Diaz charted a career high of 9.825 in the leadoff position while Macy Jennings continued a strong season on the event with a 9.800.
Ortega charted a 9.875, Shepard posted a 9.850 and Nicole Webb garnered a career-best 9.900., tying for second place.
NC State concluded the meet on floor, totaling a 49.000. Shepard led the way with a 9.900, good for first place. Diaz tied for third with a 9.825, and Merchant improved her career best to a 9.800.
