Wolfpack Takes Down Three School Record on Opening Day of ACCs

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The NC State track & field teams got out to an outstanding start at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday.
Every member of the Pack who competed on Thursday garnered All-ACC honors, and the school record was broken in all three events in which NC State competed.
After the first day of competition, the NC State women are tied for first place in the team standings (17 points) with Notre Dame. The men check in at third with six points.
DISTANCE
The NC State DMR squads posted impressive performances, each breaking their respective school records.
The women's race saw Sam Bush, Jada Griffin, Anna Vess and Kelsey Chmiel set a school record with a 10:58.10. The group attained third place with the time and garnered Second Team All-ACC accolades for their efforts. Additionally, the mark checks into the national rankings as seventh-fastest.
On the men's side, Brett Gardner, Kyle Durham, Zach Hughes and Gavin Gaynor teamed up to post a 9:38.27. The time was good for third place and Second Team All-ACC as well as a school record.
MULTI-EVENTS
The Pack was well-represented in the women's pentathlon as Timara Chapman and Mikieja Covington each achieved personal bests. Chapman broke the school record for the second time in the 2022 season, totaling 4094 points. She claimed third place and received First Team All-ACC laurels for her performance.
Mikieja Covington clocked the fifth-best time in program history in the pentathlon 60m hurdles with her time of 8.49. She collected 3986 points across the five events, good for the second-most in NC State history. With a fourth-place finish, the Wendell, N.C., native earned Second Team All-ACC accolades.
