RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State baseball alumni Trea Turner and Andrew Knizner will both compete in the Major League Baseball playoffs, which begin on Friday with the American League and National League Wild Card matchups.
Additionally, former Wolfpack baseball player Aaron Bates is a hitting coach with the Dodgers, giving NC State a combined three members representing the #Pack9 in the MLB postseason.
Turner and the Los Angeles Dodgers will begin their postseason journey in the National League Division Series on Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they face the winner of the NL Wild Card matchup between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets. Game one will be broadcasted on either FOX or FS1.
Knizner and the St. Louis Cardinals will open postseason play against the Philadelphia Phillies in one of the two NL Wild Card matchups. The Cardinals and Phillies will play a best-of-three series beginning on Friday, Oct. 7, at 2:07 p.m. in St. Louis. Friday's matchup will be televised on ABC. The winner of the series will face the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series with the first game beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Atlanta.
Turner, who just completed his first full regular season with the Dodgers, finished the year ranked second in the MLB with 194 hits, trailing teammate Freddie Freeman by just five base knocks. His .298 batting average and 27 stolen bases both ranked fourth in the National League, respectively. In The Dodgers' regular season-finale on Wednesday, Turner reached 100 RBI for the first time in his professional career.
