RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (7-5-4, 2-4-1 ACC) concludes its regular-season home schedule Thursday against Louisville.
Kickoff for Thursday night's match is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
LAST TIME OUT
Despite facing an early 3-0 deficit, the Wolfpack stormed back to earn a 3-3 draw against Miami on Saturday night. The Hurricanes scored all three of their goals in the opening 20 minutes, quickly jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Lulu Guttenberger helped lead the comeback, securing a brace with goals in the 24th and 25th minute to make it a 3-2 game at the half. Jameese Joseph tallied her team-high seventh goal of the year three minutes into the second half to tie it at 3-3. The Pack outshot Miami 13-3 in the second half, but it was unable to find the winner as the two sides shared a point.
SERIES HISTORY
The Wolfpack holds a 5-3-1 advantage in the all-time series history against Louisville. NC State has won three straight against the Cardinals, earning one-goal victories in 2019 (twice) and 2021. The Pack defeated Louisville in back-to-back road matchups in 2019, earning a win in the regular-season finale and a win in the opening round of the ACC Tournament on the road.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville (5-6-2, 2-5-0 ACC) opened the season with just one loss in its first seven games, earning victories over UIC, Northern Kentucky, then-No. 23 Memphis and Miami during that stretch. The Cardinals, however, have struggled in ACC play since their win over Miami, dropping five of their past six games. Graduate Maisie Whitsett leads Louisville in goals (four), assists (three) and points (11).
TOP 30 IN THE RPI
The ACC is strong, very strong. Following a 3-3 draw against Miami on Saturday, NC State ranks No. 29 in this week's RPI poll. In fact, NC State is one of 10 teams in the ACC inside the top 50 of this week's RPI. Louisville ranks No. 75 in this week's poll.
LEAGUE LEADERS: JAMEESE AND MARIA
Two members of the Pack rank first in the ACC in individual categories on opposite sides of the pitch. On offense, Jameese Joseph ranks tied for first in the ACC with four game-winning goals. Her four game-winning strikes also ranks 11th nationally. Defensively, Pack goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta has made a league-high 64 saves.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Captain Lulu Guttenberger has been anchoring the NC State backline for years, starting all 91 games throughout her Wolfpack career. Guttenberger needs to make just two more starts to set a new NC State record for career starts in an NC State uniform. She also needs to make just three more appearances to set the NC State record for career appearances. With a start on Thursday against Louisville, she would tie Jill Rutten (1986-1990) for the NC State record with 92 matches started in her career.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack will conclude its 2022 regular-season schedule with a pair of matches on the road, opening the two-game road stretch at No. 8 Virginia (10-2-3, 3-2-2 ACC) on Sunday. Sunday afternoon's match in Charlottesville, Virginia, is set for 2 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
