RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw against Miami on Saturday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
After Miami (4-6-3, 1-5-1) scored the game's first three goals in the first 20 minutes, graduate captain Lulu Guttenberger began the comeback with her first goal of the season. Nina Zimmer served in a cross from the left flank, which deflected off a defender before Guttenberger deposited it into the back of the net for the Pack's first goal in the 24th minute.
Jameese Joseph then helped the Pack cut into Miami's lead again, drawing a foul in the box to earn a penalty kick. Guttenberger then stepped to the spot and buried the ball into the right side of the net, making it a 3-2 game in the 25th minute.
Facing a 3-2 deficit at the half, the Pack quickly knotted the game at 3-3 when Joseph recorded her team-high seventh goal of the season in the 48th minute, finishing past the Miami keeper with a right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner. Leyah Hall-Robinson logged the assist on Joseph's tying goal.
The Pack (7-5-4, 2-4-1) applied pressure throughout the final 45 minutes, outshooting Miami 13-3 in the second half and holding a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. NC State recorded five shots in the final five minutes, including a shot on goal attempt from Jaiden Thomas and a bicycle attempt from Brianna Weber that missed just high and to the right of goal.
Guttenberger (two) and Joseph (one) tallied the goals on the night for NC State with Joseph firing a team-high five shots. Hall-Robinson tallied an assist and registered four shots of her own, including one on target.
Miami's Chloe O'Neill paced the Hurricanes with two goals, converting her two shots on frame into scores.
