10/14/2022 12:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (7-5-3, 2-4-0 ACC) returns to Raleigh for its first of two home games to close out its regular-season home schedule. The Wolfpack will host Miami (4-6-2, 1-5-0 ACC) on Saturday at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Kickoff for Saturday's match is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
Saturday's match will be NC State's Alumni Night, honoring and welcoming back Wolfpack women's soccer alumni. The Pack will also wear pink jerseys for its UNC Health Breast Cancer Awareness game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack fell 2-0 at No. 5 North Carolina on Sunday despite a career-high 10 saves from Maria Echezarreta. The Pack concluded its three-game road trip against the Tar Heels and will play two of its final four regular season games at home at the Dail.
SERIES HISTORY
NC State holds a 4-7-2 record against Miami in the all-time series history, winning the most recent matchup 1-0 at home on Oct. 18, 2018. Kia Rankin scored that evening's game-winner for the Pack's Breast Cancer Awareness night in the 2nd minute as NC State held on over the next 88+ minutes to earn the ACC victory. Who happened to have the assist on Rankin's goal? That'd be Saturday night's analyst on ACC Network Extra, Michaella van Maanen.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami earned its first ACC victory on Oct. 6 with a commanding 3-1 home victory over Virginia Tech. Despite their record, the Hurricanes have some impressive victories, earning a 1-0 win over now No. 2 Alabama, handing the Crimson Tide its only defeat of the season. Miami has struggled to score this season, logging just nine goals in 12 matches. The Hurricanes, however, have limited their opponents to just 14 goals during that span. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Meeks paces Miami with two goals and four points. Both her goals have been game-winning strikes.
TOP 25 IN THE RPI
The ACC is strong, very strong. Despite a pair of defeats to top-20 foes this past week, NC State ranks No. 22 in this week's RPI poll. In fact, NC State is one of 11 teams in the ACC inside the top 50 of this week's RPI. Miami ranks No. 47 in this week's poll.
COMEBACK PACK
The Comeback Pack. NC State rallied once again on Sept. 29 after going behind first, marking its third comeback win this season. The Wolfpack also has a flair for the dramatic, scoring in the final 15 minutes of games five times. NC State is undefeated (4-0-1) in games it nets a goal in the final 15 minutes.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Captain Lulu Guttenberger has been anchoring the NC State backline for years, starting all 90 games throughout her Wolfpack career. Guttenberger needs to make just three more starts to set a new NC State record for career starts in an NC State uniform. She also needs to make just four more appearances to set the NC State record for career appearances.
PACK PROS
Four former members of the Pack are competing at the professional level, including two in the NWSL — Tziarra King (OL Reign) and Taylor Porter (Portland Thorns). Ricci Walkling (Werder Bremen) and Naomi Powell (Nottingham Forest) round out NC State's Pack Pros in Europe.
King and Porter have both qualified for the NWSL Playoffs, which will begin on Sunday, Oct. 16. Top-seeded OL Reign will face the winner of the Houston Dash and the Kansas City Current in a semifinal matchup on Oct. 23, while second-seeded Portland will face the winner of the San Diego Wave and the Chicago Red Stars in the other semifinal on Oct. 23.
