NC State Falls to #18 Ole Miss in ITA Kickoff Championship

OXFORD, Miss. - The NC State men's tennis team fell in its second match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend to No. 18 Ole Miss by a score of 4-2.

DOUBLES RECAP
Play was close across all three doubles courts, but NC State was able to get two wins to earn the team point. After being knotted up at 2-2, Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli went on to win four straight games to take the match over Jakob Cadonau and John Hallquist Linden 6-2.
Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek clinched the doubles point for the Pack, defeating Simon Junk and Nikola Slavic in a 6-4 decision.
SINGLES RECAP
Singles was tightly contested across all six singles courts with five going to third sets.
Ole Miss got on the board first in singles competition with Junk's 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Braden Shick, but NC State was able to get its own singles point with Martins Rocens' 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 defeat of No. 44 Finn Reynolds.
The Rebels equalized the team score at 2-2 when Lukas Engelhardt came back from a first-set loss to defeat Damien Salvestre 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Wins by Hallquist Lithen and Slavic sealed the win for Ole Miss. Hallquist Lithen put the Rebels a match away from clinching with a 7-6(6), 7-6(5) win over Luca Staeheli, and No. 28 Slavic secured the victory by defeating No. 36 Catry 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1.
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack opens an eight-match home stand with a contest against No. 7 Georgia Friday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the J.W Isenhour Tennis Center.
