DURHAM, N.C. – NC State baseball garnered another national preseason ranking on Monday morning, as it checks in at No. 16 on Baseball America's poll.
This is the third national poll ahead of the 2022 season that the Wolfpack is ranked in the top 20, as it is ranked No. 7 on Perfect Game's and No. 10 on DI Baseball's preseason polls. Additionally, this is the 20th consecutive season that the Wolfpack has either started or finished the season nationally ranked.
The squad is coming off a College World Series appearance, its third in program history and second under head coach Elliott Avent. It matched its highest ranking in program history at the end of the 2021 season at No. 3 in the final USA Today and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) polls.
Nine players from last year's squad turned professional, and just five players (Devonte Brown, Sam Highfill, J.T. Jarrett, Chris Villaman and Matt Willadsen) from the core groups of starters return for the 2022 season. Likewise, the program reloaded with 21 players – eight transfers and 13 freshmen – for this year's roster.
NC State will open its season February 18 when it hosts Evansville at Doak Field at Dail Park at 3 p.m.
Limited season tickets still remain for the 2022 season. Mini-packs and single game tickets are now on sale for active Wolfpack Club members and will be available for the general public starting Monday, January 24.
