
Gymnastics Earns 195.600 Home Win Over Towson

RALEIGH - The NC State gymnastics team competed in its home opener on Saturday, securing a 195.600 for the win over EAGL opponent Towson (194.975).
The Wolfpack opened the meet with a 48.600 on vault led by junior transfer Shruthi Anand's 9.750. Her score marked the second-straight meet in which she has been NC State's leading scorer on the apparatus.
On bars, the Pack's leadoff and anchor spots posted the two highest scores for the team. Carina Jordan opened the event with a 9.825 while Meredith Robinson recorded a 9.800. Jordan's score was good to place her third, and as a team NC State earned a 48.900 for its highest score of the season of the event.
The team crossed the 49.0+ mark for the first time in the 2022 season with a 49.200 on beam led by Alexis Ortega's 9.900. The mark was a career high for the Tampa, Fla., native and earned her the individual title.
Emily Shepard scored a 9.875 on beam for the second-straight meet to achieve a second-place finish and was followed by Nicole Webb's third-place 9.825.
Gabrielle Diaz and Macy Jennings rounded out the Wolfpack scoring group on beam, each posting a 9.800 for career highs. With the pair's scores, the Pack only counted scores above a 9.800 towards its total on the event.
NC State concluded the meet on floor with a 48.900. Lauren Rutherford's 9.850 was good to tie her for the individual title, marking the first time in her career that she has topped the podium in an event. Madison Benson posted a 9.800 on floor to take third.
