RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (1-1-2) will hit the road for the fourth time in the early part of the 2021 season Thursday evening, as it is set to meet with in-state foe UNCG (1-1-2) at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SERIES HISTORY
The series history between the Wolfpack and Spartans is dead even at 7-7-4, and Thursday will be the 19th all-time meeting between the programs. The teams last met on February 24 of this year in Raleigh, and they battled to a 0-0 (2OT) draw.
The last time NC State traveled to UNCG was on Sept. 12, 2018, and Kia Rankin's early goal proved to be the game-winner. Additionally, the record of the last five matchups between the squads stands at 1-1-3.
The Spartans returned several key players from the spring to its current squad and have been one of the top teams in the Southern Conference over the last several years, as they won the SoCon Tournament in 2017 and '18 and reached the semifinals in 2019.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State welcomed No. 10 South Carolina to Dail Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon in its home opener and dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 result.
Despite scoring first for the fourth consecutive match, the Gamecocks managed to tie things up in the first half then found a way to score in the final minute of the contest. The two teams went toe-to-toe, and the outcome came down to an unfortunate goal by South Carolina with 45 seconds left.
ATTACKING EARLY
Jameese Joseph is currently the Pack's goal leader with three in four matches, and all three of them have come within the first 10 minutes of the contest.
She is tied for fifth among the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with her three goals and ranks T8th in the league with .75 goals per game.
FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT
This year's NC State squad boasts 15 freshmen, and 10 of them have already seen playing time through four matches. That group has combined for 52 percent (2,293 minutes) of the team's minutes played so far this year.
Additionally, five of those freshmen have started every match this season.
