Wolfpack Secures Road Win Over Monarchs

NORFOLK, Va. - Thanks to a late goal in the 87th minute by Jenna Butler, the NC State women's soccer team (1-0-1) secured its first win of the season with a 2-1 result over Old Dominion on Sunday night (1-1-0)Â at ODU Soccer Complex.Â
For the second consecutive match, Jameese Joseph put the Wolfpack on the board first thanks to her goal in the ninth minute from inside the 18-yard box. She was played through by Denae Antione, cut back, and placed the ball into the right top corner for her second goal of the season.

The Monarchs answered back in the 61st minute from a corner kick, as the ball bounced around the six-yard box and was eventually tapped in by Gry Boe Thrysoe.
Maria Echezarreta made two saves late in the second half, highlighted by a vital play in the 76th minute where she pushed a ball over the crossbar that was destined for the roof of the net.Â
Following the pair of saves to keep the score level, Butler headed in her second goal of the season in the 87th minute off a Lulu Guttenberger corner kick. It was their second connection of the year.Â

The Pack finished the match placing three of its six shots on target, and controlled possession for 59 percent of the contest. Out of the 15 members who played, eight were freshmen and five of them made the starting XI.
NC State will return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when it makes the short trip to Buies Creek, N.C., to face Campbell at Eakes Athletics Complex in the final match of its three-game road swing.Â
