RALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team will play its final match of the preseason as it makes the short trip to Durham, N.C., to visit Duke for an exhibition on Friday evening. Kickoff from Koskinen Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The match will not be streamed, but live stats are available here. In accordance with Duke University policy and local regulations, Duke Athletics has a mask mandate in place for all fans and spectators.
2021 SQUAD
NC State returns a significant portion of its starting lineup from 2020 and also welcomes a solid group of newcomers that has been ranked as high as fifth nationally. In total, 26 players from the 2020 roster are back on the Pack's preseason roster, which includes 3 freshmen who enrolled this past spring.
The Wolfpack returns all of its goal scorers from last year. That includes seniors Kuda Muskwe and Ivy Brisma, who tied for the team lead with two goals and an assist apiece in 2021. The team also brings back 11 players who earned 10+ starts apiece during the 2021 campaign, including Leon Krapf, Brad Sweeney and Pablo Pedregosa who started all 15 matches.
RETURN TO THE PITCH
NC State impressed in its first inter-squad matchup of the preseason as it earned an exhibition victory over Virginia Tech on Tuesday night. The Hokies started the season ranked 15th nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, but the Wolfpack completed the 2-0 shutout win in Blacksburg. Muskwe and freshman Henrique Santos were the goal scorers for the Pack, with Muskwe's coming on a converted penalty kick.
PRESEASON NEWS
Krapf was named to the 12-player 2021 ACC Preseason Watch List on Tuesday. The Wolfpack goalkeeper enters his redshirt senior season having played every minute in goal in 2020. He recorded six shutouts last season and posted a GAA of 1.12.
In total, Krapf has played and started in 54 matches for NC State. His career 1.10 GAA mark ranks as the best in program history, and his 20 career shutouts rank third.
SERIES LOOK BACK
NC State and Duke met three times in 2020 and have faced each other a total of 84 times during the regular season/postseason.
