RALEIGH - Former NC State track & field standout Gabriele Cunningham ('19) will make her Olympic debut next week as she is set to represent Team USA at the Tokyo Games.
The sprinter will compete in the women's 100m hurdles, the first round of which is set to take place Friday, July 30 at 9:45 p.m. EDT. The semifinals are slated for Sunday, August 1 at 6:45 a.m. EDT, and the final will be run Sunday, August 1 at 10:50 p.m. EDT.
NBC will handle all digital and linear coverage of the Olympic Games.
Cunningham makes the trip to Tokyo after an impressive outing at the USA Track & Field (USATF) Olympic Trials. The 2019 NC State graduate ran three consecutive personal bests at the meet, including the 12.53 that secured her a spot on the Olympic Team.
As a student-athlete at NC State, the Charlotte, N.C., native garnered three All-America honors in addition to eight All-ACC accolades. Cunningham is the first graduate of the Wolfpack program to compete in the Olympics and is the second program participant to compete in the Olympics. Joan Benoit Samuelson took home the inaugural women's marathon gold medal in 1984 but did not graduate from NC State.
