Program-Record Eleven Earn Spots on All-ACC Outdoor Track & Field Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eleven members of the NC State track & field program have been named to the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the ACC office on Thursday.
The number sets a program record for the most number of honorees in a single outdoors season. Eight women were named to the team, setting the program record for the most outdoors All-ACC Academic Team members in a season.

- Elly Henes, NC State, Sr. - NDS
- Gionna Quarzo, NC State, So. - Elementary Education
- Akira Rhodes, NC State, Jr. - Accounting
- Savannah Shaw, NC State, Sr. - Business Administration
- Hannah Steelman, NC State, Sr. - Psychology
- Katelyn Tuohy, NC State, Jr. - Engineering
Chmiel garners the honors after a successful outdoor season in which she competed in the 10000m at the NCAA Championships, placing eighth to garner First Team All-America honors.
Clairmonte recorded a podium finish in the 10000m at the ACC Championships, running the fourth-best time in NC State history of 32:50.80 to take third. The Lexington, Ohio, native qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in both the 10000m and 5000m.
Henes' season ended the Wolfpack's first individual national title in any event since 2002 as she took the 5000m crown. The win came on the heels of a first-place finish in the event and a third-place finish in the 1500m at the ACC Championships.
Quarzo registered a 33:24.87 in the 10000m at ACCs, good for a fifth-place finish and Second Team All-ACC accolades. The freshman competed in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary, placing just outside of the NCAA Championships qualifying range at 13th.
Rhodes ran the fourth-fastest time in NC State history, 13.06, at the ACC Championships for a silver-medal finish in the event. The placement was good for First Team All-ACC accolades. The Charlotte, N.C., native placed 14th in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary.
Shaw made the trip to Eugene, Ore., for NCAAs, competing in the 5000m. She placed 16th, earning Second Team All-America accolades. She additionally garnered Second Team All-ACC honors in the event with a fourth-place finish at the conference meet.
Steelman registered Second Team All-America accolades as well, competing in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Championships and placing 14th. She set school, meet and facility records and took the individual title in the event with her time of 9:43.08 at ACCs. The junior received First Team All-ACC honors in the steeplechase and 5000m (2nd place).
Tuohy posted a podium finish in the 5000m at the ACC Championships, placing third and garnering First Team All-ACC laurels. She additionally competed in the 1500m at the meet, running a 4:12.55 that was good for the third-quickest mark in Wolfpack history.
Henes garners the outdoors accolade for the second time in her career. Chmiel, Clairmonte, Quarzo, Rhodes, Shaw, Steelman and Tuohy each receive the honor for the first time.
2021 All-ACC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Academic Team

Brockman tabbed Second Team All-ACC honors with a fifth-place finish at the 110m hurdles at the ACC Championships. The sophomore's time of 13.85 was not only a personal best but additionally was good for the sixth-fastest time in Wolfpack history. He competed at the NCAA East Preliminary in the event.
Douglas competed as part of the men's 4x100m relay at the NCAA Championships, the group qualifying after an eighth-place finish at the NCAA East Preliminary and a third-place finish at ACCs. Douglas garnered Second Team All-ACC honors in the event and tabbed First Team All-ACC accolades in the long jump after placing second. His long jump PR of 7.58m (24' 10.5"), set in 2021, checks in as eighth-best in program history.
Shanklin raced in the 5000m at the NCAA Championships, setting a school record with his personal-best time of 13:12.48. He placed ninth in the event, earning Second Team All-America laurels. He additionally was the ACC Champion in the 10000m, running the 10th-fastest program time of 29:11.28.
The outdoors honors are the first of their careers for all three men.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
