Cunningham Takes Fourth in USATF Olympic Trials 100m Hurdles Final

EUGENE, Ore. - Hannah Steelman and former NC State track & field competitor Gabriele Cunningham competed at the USA Track & Field (USATF) Olympic Trials on Sunday, racing in the 3000m steeplechase and 100m hurdles, respectively.
Cunningham began her evening in the 100m hurdles semifinals, posting her second PR of the weekend with a 12.61. Her time was the fourth-fastest in her heat and the sixth-fastest overall, good to earn her a spot in the event finals.
The Charlotte, N.C., native ran another personal best in the event final with her time of 12.53. She placed fourth overall, missing the third-place and qualifying spot by 0.005 seconds. As the fourth-place finisher in the race, Cunningham will serve as the alternate for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Steelman posted a 9:59.11 in the women's 3000m steeplechase first round, placing 13th in her heat. Her time was good for 24th-fastest overall in the event.

The 2021 NCAA Champion, Elly Henes, and 2017 program graduate Erika Kemp will compete in the women's 5000m final Monday, June 21 at 8:40 p.m.
