Henes, Alumna Kemp Move on to USATF Olympic Trials 5000m Final

EUGENE, Ore. - The NC State women's track & field program saw one current student-athlete and two program alumnae compete on the opening day of the USA Track & Field (USATF) Olympic Trials. All three competitors ran in the women's 5000m semifinal.
The event final is set for Monday, June 21 at 8:40 p.m. EDT.
Recent NCAA 5000m Champion Elly Henes led the way, finishing fourth in her heat to auto-qualify for the final. The Cary, N.C., native ran a time of 15:32.75 that was the eighth-fastest overall time in the event.
Erika Kemp, a 2018 graduate of the Wolfpack program, qualified for the 5000m final as well. She ran a 15:42.76 for the 16th-quickest time overall and the seventh-best time in her heat.
2017 graduate Sammy George competed in the event, posting a time of 15:48.09. She placed just outside of the qualifying range for the final with the 18th-fastest mark.

Akira Rhodes and program alum Gabriele Cunningham are set to compete in the women's 100m hurdles first round, and Cravont Charleston will run in the men's 100m first round. Both races will take place Sunday, June 19.
