EUGENE, Ore. - NC State's women's track & field program finished its season on Saturday with a pair of student-athletes competing in the 5000m.
Elly Henes took home the first national title of her career in any event with her win in the 5000m final. The redshirt senior ran a 15:28.05 to capture the individual championship.
What an ending to Elly's career!

Not only is she our first women's national champion in any event since 2002, she's our first 5000m champion since our head coach (and Elly's mom) Laurie Henes won the title in 1991!#GoPack #NCAATF pic.twitter.com/ti6GcmbZHa
With the win, Henes became the first member of the Wolfpack women's program to win an individual national title in any event since 2002 when Kristin Price won the women's 10000m.
The individual championship is the sixth women's outdoor 5000m title in program history. The last member of the Wolfpack to win the national championship in the event was current Wolfpack women's head coach and Henes' mother, Laurie Henes, in 1991.
Savannah Shaw raced in the 5000m, marking the first time in her career that she has competed at the NCAA Championships. She posted a 16:02.90 that was good to garner a 16th-place finish and Second Team All-America honors.
