Henes Wins Second Career 5000m ACC Title to Close Out Championships

RALEIGH - The NC State track & field team completed ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships action on Saturday, posting six podium finishes on the final day of competition.
In the team standings, the Wolfpack women finished in sixth place with 69 points while the NC State men finished in ninth with 40 points.
SPRINTS
Ally Henson, Mia D'Ambrosio, Alexis Postell and Jada Griffin opened running action for the Wolfpack on Saturday, posting a 45.63 in the women's 4x100m relay. The time was the fastest by an NC State team in 2021 and was good for the sixth-quickest time in program history.
The Wolfpack men's 4x100m relay squad of Henry Young, Von Douglas, Junpai Dowdy and Alan Alvarez took home the first Wolfpack podium finish of the day, running a 39.57 for third place and Second Team All-ACC accolades.Â
Akira Rhodes recorded a personal-best time in the women's 100m hurdles final, tabbing a 13.06 for the silver medal and First Team All-ACC honors. The time replaced her own fourth-quickest mark in the Wolfpack record book.
In the men's 110m hurdles, Joshua Brockman earned Second Team All-ACC laurels with a personal-best performance of 13.91
DISTANCE
Redshirt senior Elly Henes posted a third-place and First Team All-ACC performance in the women's 1500m, clocking a 4:10.23. Her time was a PR and a school record and ranks sixth in the nation.
NC State claimed all three podium spots in the women's 5000m, led by a first-place finish from Henes. The 5000m title was Henes' second of her career, and the Cary, N.C., native beat the meet record with a time of 15:34.69. The placement was good for First Team All-ACC honors.
Hannah Steelman took second place in the 5000m, running a 15:39.20 that was quicker than the previous meet record. The finish earned her First Team All-ACC accolades.
Freshman Katelyn Tuohy earned her first ACC podium finish, taking the bronze medal and First Team All-ACC honors with her time of 15:50.11.
Savannah Shaw brought home fourth place with a 15:52.83 that earned her Second Team All-ACC honors.
Kelsey Chmiel recorded a career-best time in the event, running a 15:56.33 and finishing in seventh.
The final race of the day was the men's 5000m in which JP Flavin posted a PR of 13:57.66.

Several members of the Wolfpack will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to compete at the Aggie Twilight Classic hosted by NC A&T Sunday, May 16.
