
Wolfpack Shuts Out Furman in Doubleheader

RALEIGH – An explosive offensive paired with standout pitching launched the NC State softball team to a pair of wins Wednesday in Dail Softball Stadium against Furman. NC State (24-13) hit seven home runs between the two games, including four en route to a six-inning 8-0 victory in game one followed by the five-inning 9-0 win in game two.
NC State has now hit 63 home runs this season, tying for the sixth most in a single-season in program history. Randi Farricker added to her ACC home run leading number with two for a total of 15 on the season.
Farricker went 5-for-6 on the day with two home runs, two doubles and three RBI. Angie Rizzi also put up a pair of home runs between the two games, with a 3-for-6 performance and a stolen base.
Estelle Czech started in the circle for the Wolfpack in game one, throwing a shutout 4.0 innings. Czech (3-2) allowed three hits while striking out three, before Brooklyn Lucero pitched two shutout innings in relief, not allowing a hit. Sydney Nester picked up her seventh win of the season in game two, going the complete 5.0 innings where she struck out seven and allowed two hits.
GAME ONE RECAP
After two scoreless innings to start the game, April Visser blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 NC State lead. Visser's home run was followed by a double by Sam Russ before Logan Morris launched the second home run of the inning to give the Wolfpack a 3-0 advantage.
Back-to-back RBI-singles by Brigette Nordberg and Libby Whittaker capped off the six-run inning for a 6-0 NC State lead.
The dominant third inning was followed up by home runs in the fourth and sixth by Farricker and Rizzi, respectively.
GAME TWO RECAP
NC State came out aggressive in game two, scoring twice in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. The Wolfpack's offense did not slow down from there, as Visser and Rizzi notched singles to left field that set the stage for Russ to hit her eighth home run of the season. With a 5-0 lead, Furman held NC State off the scoreboard in the third despite a lead off double by Farricker. Rizzi and Farricker followed it up with their second home runs of the day for the 9-0 lead.
Furman was unable to score in the fifth inning as Nester threw two of her seven strikeouts to end the game in run rule fashion.

OF NOTE
- Randi Farricker's 15 home runs tie for fifth all-time in a single-season at NC State. Farricker is within striking distance of fourth place, which would tie teammate Brigette Nordberg's mark of 16 from 2019. Farricker's .926 slugging percentage is also poised for a top-10 all-time mark.
- Wednesday marked only the second meeting between the two programs in school history. With the two wins, NC State now moves ahead in the series 2-1.
