
Pack Wins Third Straight Tournament as it Captures Hootie at Bulls Bay

Benjamin Shipp scores his second straight individual title with a score of 11-under par

Awendaw, S.C. - The NC State men's golf team won its third straight tournament as it took home the team title at the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay on Tuesday.
In addition, NC State graduate Benjamin Shipp took home the individual title with a score of 11-under par. The victory is the fifth of Shipp's career and he is now tied for third-most in program history.
NC State entered the day tied at the top of the leaderboard with Auburn and Missouri quickly joined them as the three teams jostled for control of the tournament. The trio was tied through 15 holes, but NC State's five team members combined to go four-under on the last three holes to push the Pack to a two-stroke victory.
Missouri finished alone in second, two shots back while Auburn and Kent State finished tied for third-place, three shots back of NC State.
The three tournament victories this spring are the most for NC State since the 1995-96 season. This marks only the fifth team in program history to record at least three wins in a season.
Shipp entered the day tied for second on the individual leaderboard, two shots back of the leader, but matched his Monday effort with a five-under 67.
The individual title went down to the final hole as Shipp birdied the 18th hole while Auburn's Andrew Kozan finished with a par to give Shipp the one shot victory.
For the fourth-straight tournament, Max Steinlechner finished in the top-five on the individual leaderboard. The Innsbruck, Austria native finished with a score of six-under par to finish in a tie for fifth place.
In the last four tournaments, Steinlechner has now posted two second-place finishes, a fourth place finish and a fifth place finish.
Carter Graf continued his consistent play as the sophomore from Canada posted an even-par 72 for the third consecutive day to finish in a tie for 23rd place.
Christian Salzer finished in a tie for 33rd place after finishing the tournament at two-over par.
Easton Paxton was one shot back of Salzer in a tie for 38th place.
Nick Matthews, playing unattached this weekend, shot his best round of the tournament with an even-par 72 and finished in a tie for 78th place.
The Pack returns to action Friday, April 9 when it begins play at the Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs in Cary.
